GAH!!! A picture of the construction for the cornucopia :D!!!! Can’t wait to see it on the movie!!
I present to you the reason I haven’t been active the past few days - The Hunger Games. Totally obsessed. haha. Actually this shoe is a bit of a tounge-in-cheek kind of thing towards Katniss’s aversion to fashion - but i recon it would take off in parts of the Capitol. You know, if it was all real. I’ll stop typing now.
How democratic is our electoral system?
Evidence for
Evidence against
· Only people that are 18 and over are allowed to vote
· Prisoners are not allowed to vote so cant affect the society
· Voting is done in secret
· Anyone over the age of 18 can run for office
· The candidate with the most votes is elected – this is called the ‘first past the post’ system
· This system give the public a voice – they are directly choosing the candidate they want to represent them
· Parliament is elected for five years after this time they must call an election
· Political parties campaign for votes
· Is 18 the right age limit? Many young people are responsible enough to vote at 16
· If you take away the ability to vote they won’t be rehabilitated into society properly
· This system does not take into account votes cast for losing candidates, so the number of seats a party gains does not necessarily represent the percentage of votes it receives
· party in power can call an election at any time, especially when they are ahead in the opinion polls
· Election campaigns are expensive – not all parties have the same amount of cash to spend. Some receive huge donations from wealthy benefactors. is this fair in a democracy
· Constituency’s vary in size
· House of lords – has the power to alter legislation the MP’s have proposed, despite the fact that all lords have been appointed to have inherited their seats.
